Kirk’s Captain Corner: Parker Killian, Chaska Baseball

Today, we feature senior Captain Parker Killian of the Chaska baseball team.

You’ve been throwing a baseball, basically, your entire life. Do you remember when you had the sense it was something you were really good at and something you’d want to do as “your sport?”

It was when I first started travel ball and was playing well from the start of my competitive career.

What has been your favorite memory of baseball growing up?

Hanging out with teammates in the dugout and meeting new friends.

Your Chaska Hawks squad is pretty loaded this year, with a few guys who will eventually play college ball, and a lofty ranking. How are you guys feeling so for this season?

We are feeling good and are hoping to get back to state for the first time in a while. We know it will be tough, but this is the team to do it.

Both your parents are decorated Chaska athletes — your mom being a state champ in volleyball and your dad being a standout baseball player. How cool has it been following in their footsteps?

It has been awesome to be able to learn from them and revive their endless support for me in my sports journey. I also believe it was easier for me to grow in sports due to their success and want to be like them.

You were one of the leaders of the Chaska Superfans this year. Assess the performance of your group. Who stood out aside from the other leaders? Any leads on leaders for next year?

I can’t say who we will be picking for next year quite yet. Me and the other leaders are still figuring out who should follow us up.

You’ve committed to play baseball at the University of Minnesota next year. Congrats! What does it mean to you to stay in-state to play college ball?

It means everything to me. Being close to home allows my family and friends to support me because of the short distance. It also gives me so much pride just thinking that I will be playing college baseball in the state I grew up in.

What does it mean to you to be a team captain?

I feel honored that my teammates picked me to be a captain on this team. Being on the team for the past three years has given me insight and helped me learn how to be a better leader and create a place where everyone can have fun but also be competitive at the same time.

The Chaska Baseball team has three upcoming home games, all at Chaska Athletic Park:
Thursday, April 23, vs. St. Louis Park (6 p.m.)

Friday, April 24, vs. Rogers (6 p.m.)

Monday, April 27, vs. Waconia (7 p.m.)
