As the result of Tuesday’s primary election, the Carver County sheriff race has been whittled down to two candidates.
Jessica Heger had the strongest support among voters, receiving 6,905 votes or 37%. Patrick Barry came in second with 4,454 votes (24%).
Matt Steen was close behind with 22% of the vote (4,122). Darrek Huggett was fourth in the race at 1,952 votes and Adam Moore garnered 1,368 votes.
Heger and Barry will now face off in the Nov. 3 general election, with the winner replacing outgoing Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud.
Other races of interest for local voters included the primary for the District 6 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Incumbent Tom Emmer (Republican) easily outdistanced his challengers to advance to the general election. His 53,088 votes topped Mike Foley’s (10,022) and Chris Corey’s (2,502).
Emmer will face Doug Chapin (Democrat) for the opportunity to represent the district in Congress.
In the U.S. House District 3 race, Tyler Bass won the Republican primary to face off against Kelley Morrison (Democrat). Bass gained 22,589 votes while Quentin Wittrock had 18,165 votes.
In Minnesota’s consequential U.S. Senate race, Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan outpaced Angie Craig — 411,767 votes compared to 274,860. Flanagan will go up against Republican Michele Tafoya, who won handily over endorsed candidate Adam Schwarze (211,777 to 97,456).
In the Minnesota governor’s race, Amy Klobuchar won by a landslide on the Democratic side with 614,916 votes compared to her next closest opponent, Kobey Layne, who gathered 39,525 votes.
On the Republican side, Lisa Demuth was the top vote getter with 179,655. Mike Lindell came in second at 134,273 votes and endorsed candidate Kendall Qualls had 88,388.
