(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior captain Matthew Daly of the Chanhassen boys basketball team. )

What has been your favorite memory of playing Chanhassen basketball?
Getting to play with some of the same guys since third grade, and all the fun shots, games and practices I have been a part of.
What are your biggest strengths on the basketball court?
My biggest strengths are definitely three-point shooting, setting screens and being a leader on the court.
What kind of leader are you — the fiery, vocal type, or the “lead by example” type?
I think am a combination of both the vocal and lead-by-example type. I always make sure to cheer on my teammates and communicate loudly on the court. I also love to give the guys on our team something to laugh about. I would say I’m also a “lead by example” guy, because I try to always be the best example I can be and be a positive influence on those around me.
You and your twin brother, Zachary, are both standout athletes at Chanhassen High School. How much do you drive each other to be the best you can be?
I would say we push each other a lot and definitely are each other’s biggest supporters. We appreciate the talents we each have and are super proud of each other. We’ve been playing sports together most of our life, so it’s been pretty easy to push each other, and has been super fun and an awesome experience to be able to share with my brother.
Both you and Zachary are headed up to Collegeville to attend St. John’s University. Will you room together or definitely NOT room together?
My parents won’t let us room together, but I’m hoping we’re on the same floor.
What are your goals for the rest of the basketball season?
Make the most of it, and make a run in the playoffs with this team, because it’s a great group of dudes.
What does it mean to you to be a team captain?
I think it’s a huge deal to be a captain and I’m proud to be one, because it shows that my teammates and coaches respect me and see the leader and person I am.
The Storm Boys Basketball team plays tonight, Thursday, Jan. 15, at Benilde-St. Margaret’s, and return home on Friday, Jan. 23, against Orono.
