Carver County Public Works will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Highway 5 Improvements Project at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Madelyn Creek Park—1060 Anthony Way, Victoria.
Parking and Shuttle
Attendees should park at Lions Park Pavilion and take the SouthWest Transit shuttle to the event site. Limited on-site parking at Madelyn Creek Park is available by request.
Project Overview
The project will expand Highway 5 from two to four lanes west of Highway 41 in Chanhassen to downtown Victoria. Improvements include upgraded intersections, reconstruction of Highway 13 (Rolling Acres Road/Bavaria Road), water quality features and enhanced safety for people walking, biking and using the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail.
Construction Impacts
Major construction begins Monday, April 6, 2026:
- Highway 41 will close from Highway 5 to Tanadoona Drive, with detours via Highway 5, Highway 41 south and County Highway 18.
- Bavaria Road will close between Highway 5 and County Road 18, with detours via Highway 5, Highway 7 and Rolling Acres Road.
Local access will be maintained. These closures mark the start of major construction activity, with work continuing through the 2026 season ahead of a planned Highway 5 closure in 2027.
