Construction Season to Commence in Victoria

Things might feel a little bumpy traveling around in Victoria this spring, summer and fall, as multiple construction projects are planned. Read on to learn about three that have begun or will start soon. Keep in mind: dates may change, depending on weather and other factors.

Highway 11 – Carver Park Reserve

As of March 31, County State Aid Highway 11 (Victoria Drive) will be closed to through traffic during most of the construction season (through fall 2025). Local traffic has access via the intersection of Highways 5 and 7 (including access to the park). Rolling Acres Road will be used as a detour.

Highways 11 and 14

A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Highways 11 and 14 to improve safety and mobility.

Construction is anticipated to begin April 14 and conclude in July. Drivers will need to detour using Shady Oak Drive and Highways 10, 11 and 43.

See the project website for more details.

Downtown West

Improvements are planned for the intersection of Highways 5 and 11 and surrounding area in the Downtown West area. The goal is to improve safety, traffic flow and downtown access to support growth in the city.

The construction project will change traffic patterns as two roundabouts are constructed at:

  • Intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 11 (west)
  • Highway 11 at the northwest entrance of Downtown West

The project will also extend Stieger Lake Lane from downtown Victoria to Highway 11. This will serve as a bypass route while the project area is closed for construction.

Construction is slated to begin in June. Though the schedule is subject to change, the current plan is:

  • June-August 2025: Highway 11 closed
  • August-November 2025: Highway 5 and Highway 11 roundabout area closed

“We anticipate that there will be some site preparation activities – including tree clearing – in mid- to late-April,” said Victoria City Engineer Cara Geheren. “Aside from that, the construction is anticipated to occur from June through November.”
