Chanhassen High School presents Mean Girls

Mean Girls – High School Version is a musical stage adaptation of the 2004 film. The plot follows Cady Heron as she goes from being a homeschooled kid living in Kenya to attending public school in an American suburb. There she encounters “the Plastics” and other social cliques.

Director Andy Waldron describes the show this way: “At its core, Mean Girls is a story about belonging, identity and the choices we make in how we treat each other.”

This is Waldron’s first show as director at Chanhassen High School. Some of his past productions include Peter and the Starcatcher, Hamlet and Zombies and Urinetown. Waldron has spent the past few summers teaching English-immersion musical theatre camps in Shanghai, China.

“I love directing high school students because the whole team is learning together,” Waldron says. “I like being able to introduce new concepts, techniques and shows to youth, and seeing them grow as theatre artists.”

Addie Patterson plays the role of Regina George, the leader of “the Plastics.” Describing her experience playing Regina, Patterson says, “Her songs have such a broad range and it really put me to the challenge to get the songs down, but it grew me a ton as an actress and performer.”

Parker Radmann plays Damian Hubbard, a student who befriends Cady on her first day at school. Radmann says that his favorite song in the show is “Stop,” a high-energy dance number. “It is so fun to play with different ways of doing it and just overall having fun with it.”

Mean Girls – High School Version is being performed at the Chanhassen High School auditorium (2200 Lyman Blvd, Chanhassen, MN 55317). Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.
