Chaska’s Yard Waste Disposal Program Extended to Entire Month of May
The chore of spring yard work has been simplified in Chaska. Thanks to an expanded partnership with the new Dakota Prairie Composting facility just across the Minnesota River from downtown, the city is offering a full month — May 1 to 31 — for residents to dispose of unwanted yard waste. In previous years, Chaska offered a single cleanup day on the first Saturday of May. Residents would drop off grass clippings, branches, leaves and garden waste at Athletic Park and the piles of organic material would then be hauled away by a contractor. Carver Adopts Data Center Moratorium
At its April 6 meeting, the Carver City Council adopted a one-year moratorium on the construction of data centers within the city. Council members indicated that a temporary pause is necessary so the city can study the issues surrounding data centers and determine if ordinances regulating such industrial complexes are warranted.

Chaska Business Owner Accused of Arson, Insurance Fraud
A Chaska business owner has been charged with arson and insurance fraud following an investigation into a suspicious fire at the historic Chaska Depot on June 30, 2025. Sean-Paul James Hayden of Chanhassen posted a $10,000 bond April 13 and is awaiting his initial court appearance on May 15.

Community Members Rally to Save Historic Church
For nearly 140 years, the old Church of St. Hubertus has dominated downtown Chanhassen’s skyline and served as a visual link to the community’s past. But these days the facility faces an uncertain future, as the local Catholic parish inches closer to demolishing the aging building. A community group has organized to try to save the historic church.

Local News Advocates Rally at Minnesota State Capitol
To call attention to the continuing decline of local news organizations, a newly formed nonprofit — True North News Alliance — hosted a rally at the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday, April 7. Dozens of journalists, elected officials, media organization representatives and concerned citizens gathered in the rotunda to hear from speakers committed to reversing the troubling trend.
