Eastern Carver County Schools Community Education Receives Two State Project Awards

Eastern Carver County Schools Community Education received two 2026 Project Awards from the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA), recognizing Hooked on Books and the Arts Too and an Early Childhood Screening video featuring Skylar the StormHawk.

The MCEA Project Awards honor innovative and impactful initiatives that strengthen communities through community education. This year’s recipients were recognized October 22 in Rochester.

Hooked on Books and the Arts Too was honored for 20 years of inspiring a love of literacy and the arts throughout Eastern Carver County. The district-wide celebration brings families together to explore books, connect with authors and enjoy creative activities. The next Hooked on Books celebration will take place Saturday, February 20, 2027.

The Early Childhood Screening video was recognized for its creative approach to helping families learn about screening. Starring Skylar the StormHawk, the video offers a welcoming introduction to the screening experience and helps families know what to expect. Watch the award-winning video.

These awards recognize the work of the Community Education team and Melissa Hansen in the Community Education Marketing and Communications Department in bringing these projects to life. Both projects reflect the department’s commitment to connecting families with learning opportunities and making programs welcoming and accessible.
