Carver County Historical Society Summer Camps Scheduled

The Carver County Historical Society has announced its History Day Camps and classes for 2026.

Nature & Art Camp

Join society volunteers for some outside fun and art this year at the Peterson Farm. Kids will enjoy a nature scavenger hunt, gathering materials that they can use to make art to bring home afterwards. Attendees will learn some new ways to play while learning about the trees and plants that are all around us. Let’s have some messy, art fun with glue, crayons, and nature on the farm! This camp is for kids in or just leaving grades K-2! Ten seats available. Camp will take place at the Historic Andrew Peterson Farmstead.

Date and Time: June 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. (2 hours)

Price: $30/members, $40/nonmembers

Handicrafts: First Sewing Machine Project

Join us for the next exciting level in learning how to sew! During this two-day camp, kids will learn about cutting out patterns, piecing together fabric, and then sewing the project together using a sewing machine. All materials will be provided for campers to complete their project during the camp. This camp is for kids grades 3-6! Ten seats available. Camp will take place at the Historic Andrew Peterson Farmstead.

Date and Time: July 8 and 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. (3 hours each day)

Price: $70/members, $80/nonmembers

Learn How: Replacing a Broken Zipper

Is your favorite coat or pair of pants needing a new zipper? We’ve got you! This class is for you. Join us to learn how to replace a zipper or how to add a zipper to your project. We’ll be teaching you how to take the zipper out of your item, and how to put it back in. We suggest using a practice item with a separating zipper like those on a hoodie. No pants please. Don’t have one you’re willing to sacrifice for class? We suggest checking out the thrift stores! This class is for anyone 10 and up who has or can borrow a sewing machine and has basic knowledge of its operation. Space is limited to 10 people. The class will be hosted at the Andrew Peterson Farmstead.

Supplies needed: sewing machine with zipper foot, thread, seam ripper, and a practice item to work on. We have a couple extra machines that may be borrowed.  Spare machines are available on a first-come basis. Please note if you need to borrow one when signing up.

(This class is appropriate for persons who have a sewing machine and/or basic knowledge of how to use one.)

Date/Time: July 14, from 1  to3 p.m. (2 hours)

Cost: $32 for CCHS members, $40 non-members

Instructor: Wendy Petersen Biorn
