The Chaska boys lacrosse season is underway. The team started the season 2–0, earning a 12–4 road win over Providence Academy on April 11. On April 14, they defeated Hopkins 6–4 at home.

On a sunny but cold April 18 afternoon, the Hawks faced the Eden Prairie Eagles (0–2). The opening minutes of the first quarter saw both teams testing each other with a series of rushes and shots. Junior Rhys Witheridge was in goal for the Hawks and made several key early saves. The Eagles committed a few infractions in the quarter, but the Hawks were unable to convert. After a scoreless stretch, Eden Prairie broke through with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter, taking a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second quarter, the Eagles added four more goals and at halftime the Hawks trailed 5–0. The cool, windy weather may have played a factor, as passes went astray and a few were dropped. Eden Prairie’s defense adjusted quickly to the Hawks’ offensive efforts. Halftime coaching emphasized tactical adjustments, particularly on defense, and opportunities to counter the Eagles’ approach.

The Hawks continued to battle in the second half but were unable to overcome the deficit. Eden Prairie added four more goals before freshman Evan Kruger put Chaska on the board with 2:34 remaining in the third quarter. Sophomore Leighton Hines added another goal for the Hawks with 1:55 left in the game. Hines now leads the team with eight goals on the season. The final score was 11–2 in favor of Eden Prairie.

After the game, head coach Chris Orcutt focused on the opportunities ahead.
“That was a strong effort—you worked hard. The score is deceptive. Our execution was lacking today against a talented team. Let’s focus on our fundamentals and move forward. Our season is young, and we learned a lot today,” he said.

The Hawks return home to face Benilde-St. Margaret’s at 4:30 p.m. on April 21.
