Carver Mayor’s November 2026 Newsletter

Greetings! I hope you’re all enjoying the cooler weather and changing seasons. Fall has been busy, but it has also allowed for many opportunities to connect with so many people in our community.

Here are my November updates:

HPC Award – Last month, along with members of the Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC), I was honored to award Connie Kraus the 2026 Heritage Preservation Award. The award recognizes a project that exemplifies best practices in the preservation and restoration of a structure in Carver’s Historic District. Connie’s home at 112 4th Street East may be Carver’s first architect-designed home. It was built in 1902 by John Funk, Jr., who owned a general store, lumber yard, and hardware store, all located on Broadway Street, not far from his home.

Resident Advisory Group – The next meeting of the Resident Advisory Group will take place on Thursday, November 5 at 6 p.m. at the Fire Department/Public Services Building at 801 Jonathan Carver Parkway. This is a great way to get more involved in our community and share feedback on a variety of topics. If you’re interested in joining us, all you have to do is show up!

Levee Update – This is the case of good news/bad news. First, the good news. In August I learned the City of Carver will receive an additional $575,000 from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant, bringing the total funds raised for the project to $13.325 million, yay! The bad news is that after opening the bids last month for the first phase of construction on the Levee Improvement Project, they were approximately 36% above the engineer’s estimated cost, boo! Those bids were rejected and several items were identified that can be adjusted to minimize construction costs. Council and I decided to have the project rebid, with adjustments to the plans and specifications to reduce overall project costs. The second round of bids will be opened later this month. Stay tuned!

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything that’s going on in our community, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you!
