After a few lovely days of “false spring” last month with temperatures in the 50s, we’re now entering the snowiest month of the year. With that, here are my updates for March:
Sidewalk Connection
At our City Council meetings last month, we took steps to start work which will complete a sidewalk connection between Lions Park and downtown Carver, along Mt. Hope Road. On Feb. 2, we reviewed three options for a new pedestrian connection. After listening to feedback from residents, the City Council and I decided to move forward with a six-foot-wide blacktop sidewalk on the west side of Mt. Hope Road. At our Feb. 17 meeting, we authorized the city engineer to start working on plans and specs for the trail, which will be part of the 2026 Street Maintenance Project. Adding this sidewalk connection will not only allow for a safer route to walk, ride or roll, but it will also address our goal of having safe, stable and reliable infrastructure systems, which is a key element from the city’s strategic plan.
Carver Oaks
On March 2, I helped cut the ribbon and celebrate the opening of Carver Oaks, the Carver County Community Development Agency’s newest affordable apartment building in Carver. This 43-unit building, which is for those who are age 55+, includes amenities such as workout and community rooms, underground parking, and on-site management. Carver Oaks, which has a mix of 1- and 2- bedroom units, is located at 1595 Hartwell Drive.
Fish Fries
Growing up in southeastern Wisconsin, Friday night fish fries were a populr thing every weekend. This time of year, I look forward to Friday night fish fry season in Minnesota. In Carver you can get your Friday night fish fry fix at Harvey’s Bar & Grill (220 Broadway Street). Lisa’s Place (205 Broadway Street) has a fish sandwich, shrimp basket and walleye fingers, which are all very good too!
Report a Concern
Have you noticed a street light that is out, a pothole that needs attention, or do you have a water-related concern? While you can always call City Hall at 952-448-5353 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, there’s also the “Report A Concern” button on CityOfCarver.com. It’s an easy way to submit your questions, concerns or other non-urgent issues 24/7/365.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about anything that’s going on in the community, or if you want to participate in one of my “dinner with constituents” events where I’ll make chili and you can discuss whatever is on your mind, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you!
