(Mayor’s Corner is a regular feature where Carver County mayors share updates, insights, and messages with their communities. Carver City Mayor Courtney Johnson is providing this edition.)
May always seems to be a busy month and that is also true in the city of Carver.
First, an update on a topic Council and I have been discussing at length this year – the city of Carver has outgrown our Public Services facility. There is no longer room to store all the department’s vehicles, tools and other equipment, and to provide a safe working environment in the existing 15,750 square feet of space we have located throughout the city. A space study recently completed by the city revealed we need an additional 37,206 square feet (for a total of 52,956 square feet). When determining what to do next, I want to hear from Carver residents and business people! There will be a listening session at our June 2 City Council meeting. Please join us at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
We’re hiring!
Each summer, the city hires extra help to do gardening and outdoor maintenance tasks throughout the Carver, and we’re still looking for a few more folks to join our team. For more information about these seasonal roles and to apply, go to CityOfCarver.com/jobs.
Fun Update
At the April 21 City Council meeting, I recognized five future leaders from the city of Carver for their participation in the League of Minnesota Cities “Mayor for a Day” contest. Each of these 4th and 5th grade students wrote a thoughtful essay detailing what they would do if they had the opportunity to be mayor for a day. Each kiddo received a signed proclamation and was thanked for their efforts, in addition to being recognized at our meeting.

Mosquito Control
With warmer weather and spring rain, the return of Minnesota’s unofficial state bird — the mosquito — can’t be far behind. In Carver, we’re part of the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD), which has been protecting residents from mosquitoes, black flies and ticks since 1958. To learn more about MMCD’s work, including treatment schedules and locations, or to report areas that need to be treated for mosquitos, visit MMCD.org.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about something in our community, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Stay connected, be informed and get involved!
