There’s a new kid in town! Jersey Mike’s Subs opened in Chaska on Feb. 12. Located at 188 Pioneer Trail, Suite 209 (in the Chaska Commons), the restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week.
Lots of Options
Sandwiches are king at Jersey Mike’s. Served hot or cold, a wide variety of options are available (both for carnivores and vegetarians). Four kinds of bread are baked fresh on location each day. Hungry patrons can customize their sandwiches with a selection of toppings.
Ordering a sandwich “Mike’s Way” includes sliced onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil blend, oregano and salt. Chips and a large selection of drinks are available to accompany sandwiches, and diners with a sweet tooth can pick up cookies or brownies for dessert.
There are six owners of the Chaska location, four of whom are local: Nolan Blaser, Owen Blaser, Mike Ludick and Chris Murdoch. These owners are very experienced – ranging from four to 15 years – and they also operate Jersey Mike’s locations in Chanhassen and Waconia.
Nolan Blaser is excited about the store opening.
“We have a great crew of about 25 employees,” he said. “We’re very happy to be a part of the local Chaska community and look forward to meeting everyone.”
Blaser reported that while there are many popular items on the menu, #13 (The Original Italian) and #17 (Mike’s Famous Philly) are big sellers at their other locations.
Month of Giving
The Jersey Mike’s organization also believes strongly in charitable contributions, with March being dubbed the “Month of Giving.” Each year, millions of dollars are donated to local charities. Make plans to visit on March 26, the designated “Day of Giving.” Chaska, along with every Jersey Mike’s in Minnesota, will donate 100 percent of sales to Special Olympics Minnesota.
Jersey Mike’s History
The original family-run store opened in 1956 and was named Mike’s Giant Submarine Shop, after its original owner, Michael Ingravallo.
In 1971, 14-year-old Peter Cancro began working at the Point Pleasant, New Jersey, location. At age 17, he heard the original owner was planning on selling the store, and so with a loan from his football coach who was also a local banker, he purchased the shop.
Cancro is still the CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems Inc. and oversees more than 3,000 locations.
According to their website, nearly 300 are coming soon.
