City of Chaska Announces Honorary Name for Creek Road

On Monday, Nov. 11, the city of Chaska unveiled Veterans Park Drive as the honorary name for Creek Road and dedicated the city street to Chaska residents who served in the United States Armed Services.

A short ceremony was held to celebrate the dedication. Mark Windschitl, the mayor of Chaska, and Billy Luetkahans, the Chaska VFW Post commander, gave remarks.

Afterwards, the Chaska American Legion and VFW Honor Guard presented arms, and representatives from the American Legion and VFW pulled off the cover of the dedication sign and the Veterans Park Drive honorary street sign.

“These are more than just signs,” Windschitl said. “They are symbols of our gratitude to our veterans. They remind us that freedom, peace and security are not free.”

Members of the Chaska VFW Post 1791 and Chaska American Legion Post 57, family members and community members were also in attendance.

The commanders of the Chaska American Legion and Chaska VFW first proposed the idea of an honorary name for Creek Road during a visitor presentation at the Sept. 9 Chaska City Council meeting.

Addresses along Creek Road will still use Creek Road for their physical and mailing addresses. Veterans Park Drive is strictly an honorary name in addition to Creek Road, according to the city.
