See giants at the library

Author Ron Rindo visits the Chanhassen Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Rindo will discuss his fifth novel, Life, and Death, and Giants.

In this book, Rindo tells the story of Gabriel Fisher, an orphan, born weighing 18 pounds and measuring 27 inches long. No one in Lakota, Wisconsin, knows what to make of him. He walks at eight months, communicates with animals, and seems to possess extraordinary athletic talent. But when the older brother who has been caring for him dies, Gabriel is taken in by his devout Amish grandparents who disapprove of all the attention and hide him away from the English world.

But it’s hard to hide forever when you’re nearly eight feet tall. At 17, Gabriel is spotted working in a hay field by the local football coach. What happens next transforms not only Gabriel’s life but the lives of everyone he meets.

Books will be available for purchase and signing from Valley Bookseller. This program will be streamed simultaneously at https://www.facebook.com/CarverCountyLibrary/live and available on our social media for a month after the program. Presented by Literature Lovers’ Night Out™.

Super, not spooky!

Super not-so-spooky story times will be held at all branches at the end of October. Each super story time centers around a theme and in addition to a regular early literacy presentation, a themed-craft is added.

Don’t be a ghost: instead, join others at Victoria on Monday, Oct. 26, or Chaska and Chanhassen on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Story times start at 10:30 a.m.

Get stuffed!

On Friday, Oct. 23, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., drop a stuffed animal off in the Kids Area at the Chaska Library. (Dolls and other “babies” are invited as well. One toy per child.)

When dropping off, patrons will create a name tag for the stuffed animal, tell staff any special requests about the animal or if they have any allergies, and give them a cuddle and say goodnight.

Each furry friend will spend the night at the library with a couple of librarians and other stuffed animals having a lot of fun (and hopefully not get into any trouble)!

On Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m., come pick up each stuffed animal, enjoy a slideshow of the night’s adventures and have some snacks.
