Chanhassen Resident To Be Inducted into Minnesota Insurance Hall of Fame

Chanhassen resident Tom Devine will be inducted into the Minnesota Insurance Hall of Fame in ceremony Oct. 22 on the University of St. Thomas campus. He is being recognized for his numerous contributions to industry.

Devine is the fourth generation of his family to serve in the state’s insurance industry. His grandfather co-founded the Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Devine is also the first person from the state’s insurance industry to serve on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.

Additionally, he was on the Task Force Working Group for the formation of the MnSure (the Minnesota HealthCare Exchange) and has been a long-time advocate for the University of Minnesota at the State Capitol.

Devine joined his family’s Twin Cities agency in 1973 selling medical insurance. As the agency began to grow and diversify, it soon became a statewide leader in the sale of long-term care insurance, especially as part of employee benefit packages in the workplace. The agency also provided long-term care insurance to members of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

As the agency continued to increase in size, it eventually became part of the Horizon Agency and then HUB International. Devine was also a pioneer in creatively addressing difficult healthcare coverage challenges through his collaboration with Lloyd’s of London.

In addition to honoring the inductees, the annual ceremony produced by the Center for Risk Management & Insurance at the University of St. Thomas serves as a connection point for the various sectors of Minnesota’s insurance industry.
