May is going to be a busy month in the City of Carver. I’m excited to share a few updates about what I’ve been working on and what’s going on in our community.
Levee update — Earlier this year I was notified the City of Carver received $4 million from the federal Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill for our Levee Improvement Project. This brings the total to $12.75 million the city has received from our local, state and federal partners since I started working to find outside sources to help fund this project. While there is still work to be done to solidify final project elements and budgets, we aim to start construction this fall. You will be hearing a lot more about specific project details and scheduling and you will be able to share your thoughts and feedback this summer.
Resident Advisory Group — If you’re interested in getting more involved in our community, I have a great opportunity for you. Next month, we’re having our first meeting of the Resident Advisory Group. With this new group, I’m hoping to get meaningful feedback from residents who are interested in a variety of topics, including the upcoming Public Services Building project, city budgeting, the comprehensive plan and more. Our first meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at City Hall. If you’re interested in joining us, all you have to do is show up.
Data Center Moratorium — As I previewed last month, on April 6 the City Council and I unanimously passed a one-year moratorium on data centers in the City of Carver. To be clear, the city has never received a land use application for a data center nor were we anticipating one. This was a completely proactive measure. The moratorium will allow city staff time to study things like zoning, water availability, noise and more and create recommendations on how we should proceed. I anticipate staff will bring this topic back to a City Council meeting early next year.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about anything that’s going on in the community, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
