(Note: Carver County Library branch managers are providing updates on programs and services for Carver County Local News. This month, Chanhassen and Victoria location manager Patrick Jones shares information on a service offered at the Victoria location).
Last fall, extended access service began at the Victoria Library, where patrons may use public computers, scan, fax, print and self-checkout out library materials when the library is not staffed. The building can also be used as a work or study space.
Registration for the service began last May. More than 150 people have registered to use the service, and 73 percent completed the required orientation. Since the opening on Sept. 2, it has been used 1,210 times, with 68 percent of visitors using it three or more times. On average, there have been an average of eight visitors per day and the service has been used 81 percent of days since it has been available.
Patron satisfaction with the service has been outstanding. A recent survey – which had an impressive 78% return rate – found that everyone rated the service good or great. When asked to comment on their experience, survey respondents noted numerous benefits of the service, such as: “I appreciate this service so much. It makes my local branch so much more accessible and easier to use. I know I can drive to Chanhassen where they have longer hours, but that’s generally a trip I have to plan. Being able to swing into Victoria whenever works for my schedule to grab new books or holds is far more convenient. Love this service!”
