Kirk’s Captain Corner: Emelin Miguel, Chanhassen Cheerleading

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature Captain Emelin Miguel of the Chanhassen Cheerleading Team.)

When, and how, did you get into cheerleading?

Last year I helped during the Homecoming parade. I liked being in a welcoming environment. My friend who was in cheer invited me to her banquet and during the banquet for fall I heard everything they did during the season, and I wanted to be part of it!

There are cheer teams for both fall and winter. Do you cheer for both seasons or focus on one over the other?

Yes, fall 2025 was my first season in football, but this winter is my second season on winter. I like both equally because they are different! And hope to do both next year.

What are cheer competitions like at the high school level?

We attended our first competition after Homecoming. It was fun and a new experience Chan varsity cheer has ever done. I hope to go back next fall!

What are some of your favorite ways to get a crowd hyped up for a big game?

My favorite ways to get the crowd hyped is showing some stunts we worked on, new cheers, and fan favorite cheers, too!

What have been your favorite memories of cheer team?

My favorite memories have been meeting different people and having a strong connection with them.

What are your plans for next year?

Next year I hope to return to both seasons as a senior.

What does it mean to you to be a team captain?

To me, being the captain on the cheer team means responsibility and accountability. My team knows who to reach out to, and I always offer my help with anything. It’s showed me how to be more responsible in all the ways. But also, being captain means focusing on how we can make the team better and stronger!
