Kirk’s Captain Corner – Bryn Lunski, Chanhassen Girls Volleyball

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior Bryn Lunski, Captain of the Chanhassen Storm girls volleyball.)

When did volleyball become “your sport?”

Volleyball became my sport when I started going to my mom’s volleyball camps. I got the opportunity to play with the older girls and it motivated me to get better every time I went. I was also playing softball at the time, but I stopped playing so that I could focus on volleyball.

What position do you play and how did you end up there?

I am an outside hitter, and I chose this position because my mom was a collegiate outside hitter and I also just loved the challenge of hitting in and out of system balls. My first year of club I trained as an outside hitter and ever since I have just stuck with it.

Your mom was a two-time state volleyball champion as a Chaska Hawk.  What’s the best advice she’s given you during your own volleyball career?

The best advice my mom has given me is to be a great teammate, be coachable, always strength train and to have fun playing the game.

What has been your favorite memory of playing with the Storm volleyball program so far?

My favorite memory with Chanhassen volleyball so far has been when we swept Chaska my sophomore year because of the fun rivalry and overall atmosphere in the gym. Beating New Prague in five sets my junior season was also a memorable match!

You will play for the University of St. Thomas next year (my alma mater)! How cool is it to be a part of a new Division I program, and have a chance to be a part of history there?

I am beyond excited to become a Tommie and be part of the new Division I program at St. Thomas! I’m so grateful for the amazing coaching staff that I’ll have the privilege to work with, too. The opportunity to be part of St. Thomas history means a lot to me and I can’t wait to get to work and help build something special.

Will it be hard wearing purple, your biggest rival’s color, having played for the Storm the past few years?

Yes, it will definitely be a change but honestly purple has been my favorite color since I was little so I am excited to wear it for the next four years!

What does it mean to you to be a team Captain?

Being a team captain means a lot to me because I know that my team can trust me on and off the court. It also helps me be a good role model for my team, but also the younger girls who look up to us. I feel honored to be a team captain because it pushes me to stay positive and build a strong team culture.
