At just about the half-way point in the season, a nine-hole meet included all schools from the Metro West Conference gathering at Dahlgreen Golf Course on April 30. The Chaska High School girls finished fifth out of eight teams. 

Chaska sent their six best golfers based on past match play for the varsity meet. Groups of four golfers from each of the participating schools teed-off and completed their rounds following the established rules of golf. The top four finisher scores are used to determine team and individual results.

The Hawks have had solid teams over the last few years, winning the conference in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Chaska coach Zak Schay shared that the team has been playing well so far this year, with many team and individual goals being met. “We’ve got a young team, but our scores get better and everyone’s skills are getting honed. Golf is a fun and challenging game. Anything can happen in a match and our golfers are always ready.”

Teams from the Metro West Conference were on their game and the meet did not go in the Hawks favor with the varsity team finishing fifth out of the eight teams. Alivia Dreier had her best round of the year (45). 

The junior varsity team played well and finished second out of eight teams. Amelia Olheiser had her best round of the year (46).

Before the match, co-captains Mallory Allen and Joey Koth took a few moments and stated that being a captain has been a great way to share their experience and love of the game with the current team. 

“We like going out to the middle schools and talking about the team, getting new people interested in the sport, and generating interest in future players for the team,” Allen said. 

 Highlights for the two senior captains included being able to play at the Chaska Town Course and the 18-hole Geneva Invite. Koth will play next year for Augustana. 

Coach Schay indicated that some team members just started this year, but many have played recreationally with friends or family. 

Carly Campbell said she plays because her family plays and she wanted to participate.

“My dad played in college and I could see how much fun he has playing, so I wanted to play too. My teammates are great, my game is getting better but I’m having a ton of fun,” she said.
