The Carver County Library is excited to announce the launch of a new service for the community: the Media Conversion Lab. Funded by the Charles J. Dahlke grant program, this self-service station is designed to help individuals transfer older film and video formats into digital files. The lab is currently available at Waconia Library and is free for public use.

No library card is required to access the Media Conversion Lab, but users must first view a video tutorial and sign a waiver. Written directions are also provided on-site and library staff are available to answer basic questions and offer limited assistance.
The lab offers the capability to digitize various media formats:
- Video formats (converted to MPG or MP4): VHS, VHS-C
- Slides, photo prints and negatives (converted to JPG): 135, 126 and 110 negatives and slides, as well as Super 8 film
- Camcorder formats (if users bring a working camcorder and power cord): Hi8, Digital 8, Video 8, and MiniDV

The Carver County Library is also pleased to host two sessions of the Great Decisions discussion program at Chanhassen Library in April. Great Decisions is the largest discussion program on world affairs in the United States and is facilitated in Minnesota by Global Minnesota, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization. The program provides expert-led discussions on foreign policy and international issues, encouraging community engagement and dialogue.
The Chanhassen Library will host the following sessions:
- Monday, April 14, at 6 p.m. – International Cooperation on Climate Change – A discussion on the 2015 Paris Agreement and the role of the U.S. in fostering international climate cooperation.
- Monday, April 21, at 6 p.m. – U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy – An exploration of America’s evolving role in global economic leadership and its impact on international trade and cooperation.
This program is funded by the Friends of the Chanhassen Library. To register for these sessions and explore additional library programs, visit: https://carverlib.libcal.com.
With these new offerings, the Carver County Library continues its commitment to providing valuable resources and educational opportunities for the community.
