Record-Breaking Performances by Warain Lead StormHawks Swim/Dive Team at State

The Chaska/Chanhassen StormHawks boys swimming and diving team delivered a standout performance at the AA state swimming and diving meet held March 5-7 at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus. The StormHawks joint program finished in seventh place overall.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, coach Joseph Mau described the event as “simply amazing,” noting that nearly every swimmer achieved their best time of the season during the finals on Saturday night.

“You couldn’t ask for a better outcome,” Mau said. “The boys worked very hard this year, and it paid off. We are very proud of all of them.”

Senior standout Isidore “Zed” Warain was a key contributor to the team’s success, earning a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a third place finish in the 200 individual medley (IM).

Warain’s exceptional performance not only earned him a spot high on the podium but also resulted in two new school records for Chanhassen High School: a blistering 1:48.99 in the 200 IM and a 54.76 in the 100 breaststroke. Note: Chaska/Chanhassen individual school records are recognized by the school in which the student athlete attends.

Warain also played a pivotal role in the 200 medley relay team alongside his brother, Izyndro Warain, Casey Parker and Sam Kvam. The quartet broke the Chaska varsity record with a remarkable time of 1:34.19, and finished in fifth place in the state meet.

Mau praised Zed Warain’s dedication and impact on the team.

“He has had an outstanding two-year career for the StormHawks and I will miss his drive, energy, work ethic and poise above all else,” he said.

Warain expressed gratitude for his high school swimming journey and was proud of his achievements at the state meet.

“It was a great meet with a lot of fast and talented swimmers,” Warain said. “Overall, I was really happy with my performance, with a best time in the 200 IM and the 50 freestyle in the relay. Placing second and third at state felt great and accomplishing the goals that coach Joe and I had set was a great way to end my high school swimming career.”

Looking ahead, Warain plans to continue both his athletic and academic journey at the University of Minnesota. “My plan for the future is to represent the University of Minnesota in both athletics and academics,” he said.
