A standing-room-only crowd turned out Wednesday night for the kick-off event of community volunteers and supporters who want to back the newly launched Carver County Local News.
Those in attendance heard from the nonprofit board members and others about how the local news organization came to be and how they can help out. Attendees also stepped forward to assist with the effort to create a local news source — everything from volunteer reporters, photographers, business assistants and prospective board members. Some even kick-started the fundraising campaign with donations.
“Turnout was great,” said Board Member Mike Huang of the 40+ in attendance. “I’m really excited about how many people are stepping forward to roll up their sleeves and contribute to Carver County Local News.”
Now that CCLN has kicked off, Huang said next steps will be to review information from the volunteers and meet with them about their assignments.
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us still, but this is a great step forward,” he said. “We’re looking forward to working with our volunteers as we are only beginning our journey!”
