Carver County Local News (CCLN) is powered by a dedicated team of volunteers committed to bringing local, fact-based reporting to the communities of Carver, Chanhassen, Chaska, and Victoria. As we grow, we’re seeking volunteers who are passionate about local news, civic engagement, and community storytelling.
Below are current volunteer roles available. Whether you have experience in nonprofits, tech, sales, or simply want to make a difference, there’s a place for you here.
Volunteer Grant Writer
We’re seeking a detail-oriented writer with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of nonprofit operations. You’ll help secure funding that sustains our mission.
Key responsibilities:
- Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with our goals
- Understand eligibility requirements and funder priorities
- Write clear, concise, and compelling proposals
- Collaborate with the team to collect necessary data and impact stories
Qualifications:
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with the grant writing process
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Understanding of nonprofit structure and local issues preferred
Web Operations Volunteer
Support our publishing workflow by maintaining the CCLN website, built on WordPress.
Key responsibilities:
- Post articles and update pages as needed
- Monitor site functionality and flag technical issues
- Ensure accuracy, formatting, and timely publication
- Assist with simple plugin updates and backups (training provided if needed)
Qualifications:
- Basic proficiency in WordPress or similar CMS
- Reliable and organized
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with editors
- Awareness of web security and user experience is a plus
Sales & Development Volunteer
Help local businesses connect with our engaged audience and support nonprofit news.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify potential business partners, sponsors, or advertisers
- Reach out to local businesses and present partnership opportunities
- Explain our nonprofit mission and audience reach
- Help craft sponsorship packages or promotions when needed
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and persuasion skills
- Familiarity with local business landscape
- Comfortable communicating by phone, email, or in-person
- Experience in sales, business development, or nonprofit fundraising is a plus
Board Member
CCLN is seeking committed community leaders to join its Board of Directors.
Key responsibilities:
- Participate in strategic planning and oversight
- Support fundraising and outreach efforts
- Ensure fiduciary and ethical responsibilities are upheld
- Represent CCLN’s mission within the community
Ideal candidates bring:
- Experience in nonprofit governance, law, journalism, fundraising, or local leadership
- Integrity, ethical leadership, and belief in the role of independent journalism
- A willingness to collaborate and support volunteer teams
