Chaska Boys Tennis Edge Out New Prague, Stopped by Hutchinson in Sectionals
The Hawks defeated New Prague 4-3 on May 7 behind a sweep of the singles matches, highlighted by Connor Fouks, Mitchell Tan, and Evan Atkinson earning decisive victories. The match’s biggest moment came at No. 4 singles, where eighth-grader Vinnie Benoit battled through a two hour and 45-minute marathon before winning a dramatic third-set tiebreak to secure the team victory. Chaska later fell 4-3 to Hutchinson in the team sectionals despite wins from Fouks, Atkinson, and the doubles team of Will Podhradsky and David Calderone, wrapping up the Hawks’ team season before individual sectionals begin May 23.

Chaska Cubs Go Extra Innings in Home Opener
The Chaska Cubs opened their 98th season on May 10 at Historic Chaska Athletic Park, rallying late before falling 6-3 in 11 innings to Baseball 365. Strong pitching from Drake Kilber, Pete Ohnsorg, and Andy Dauwalter, along with timely hitting from Patrick Fontaine and Griff Wurtz, helped the Cubs erase a 3-0 deficit and force extra innings. Despite the loss, Manager Bob Poppitz and team captain Griff Wurtz acknowledged the team’s effort and competitiveness against a strong Baseball 365 squad.

Storm Wins Softball Series Over the Hawks
Chanhassen defeated Chaska 11–6 on a cold and windy May 4 matchup, using a strong second and fourth inning to build an early lead. The Hawks responded with solid hitting, including home runs from Brooklyn Hoffman and Iyla Branch, but were unable to close the gap. Chaska showed resilience late in the game and will finish its season with four remaining road contests.

The StormHawks boys volleyball team continued its strong season with tournament wins and a hard-fought 3–1 match against a dominant Bloomington Jefferson team, even taking a set against an opponent that rarely drops any.

Chaska Girls Lacrosse Season Off to a Winning Start
Chaska’s girls lacrosse team earned a decisive 19–6 win over New Prague, overcoming an early 2–0 deficit with a dominant first quarter and balanced scoring throughout the game. Claire Dittberner led the Hawks with five goals and three assists, while strong defense and 13 saves from goalie Kamryn Remick limited New Prague to just two second-half goals. The victory highlighted the team’s depth, development, and momentum as they look ahead to their next game.

Chaska and Chanhassen battled through four scoreless innings before Chanhassen capitalized on key opportunities to secure a 4–0 win in their first meeting of the season. Chaska followed with a 5–2 loss to St. Louis Park, despite early offensive efforts, and will look ahead to upcoming games against Waconia and a rematch with other conference foes.

April is Severe Weather Awareness Month, and the National Weather Service is seeking more people to join CoCoRaHS, a volunteer network where participants measure and report daily precipitation from their homes to improve weather data coverage.
