I read this in Libby, as an ebook; a very convenient way to get your library books. I love it. Libby also has digital e-audiobooks. The library has an excellent selection of titles in Libby. I read them on my phone and my iPad.
Maria Parr is a Norwegian children’s writer, who currently teaches part time at a high school. Her books have been translated into many languages, and there is a Norwegian children’s TV program based on Adventures with Waffles.
This book is the first in a series, the second book was published in 2021, and is called “Lena, the Sea, and Me.”
Lena and Trille are best friends and live in a tiny cove settlement on the coast of Norway, called Mathildewick Cove. Trille lives with his parents, grandfather, and three siblings, and Lena lives next door with her mother.
Trille and Lena get into ALL sorts of scrapes, like trying to recreate Noah’s Ark using Trille’s grandfather’s small fishing boat, loading on two rabbits, a chicken, a goat, some insects… and it seems to be going well until they try a cow.
Often their adventures end in waffles at Aunty Granny’s or a concussion for Lena. They do face a big loss: Aunty Granny (Trille’s beloved grandfather’s sister) dies suddenly one night; and Lena and her mother are possibly moving to the city.
