Looking for a Good Fish Fry? Start at Home!

It’s the time of year that fish fry specials are being offered at many area restaurants or sponsored by service organizations. They are delicious, but it’s really not difficult to make a delicious fish-based dinner at home.

Tuna steaks are tasty, hearty and can be prepared in just a few minutes.

Looking for a breaded option? It’s possible to make a healthier version by baking rather than frying the fish. The next time you think “Go Fish,” you can do it yourself!

Tuna Steaks

  • 2 tuna steaks (4-6 oz. each)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning

Mix oil, soy sauce and lemon juice together. Add tuna steaks and marinate for at least 30 minutes. Add bagel seasoning to a shallow bowl. Press tuna into the seasoning on both sides.

Bake:

  • Air fryer — preheat at 400 degrees for 3-5 minutes. Bake for 5-6 minutes for rare/medium rare or 6-8 minutes for medium/well done.
  • Oven — preheat to 450 degrees and bake for 4-6 minutes (rare/medium) or 10-12 minutes (medium/well done).

Parmesan Fish

  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pound fish fillets (cod or tilapia works well)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Add first six ingredients in a shallow bowl and mix well. Whisk egg in separate shallow bowl.

Dip fish in egg and then breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly on all sides.

Add to greased baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes (until internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit). The fish should flake lightly with a fork.
