Kirk’s Captain Corner: Clara Capretz, Chaska Dance Team

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior Captain Clara Capretz of the Chaska Dance Team.)

How long have you been dancing competitively? Did you dance for a studio when you were younger?

I started dancing competitively at 9 years old at River Valley Dance Academy, and joined Chaska my freshman year!

Do you compete in jazz, kick or both? And if both, which is your favorite?

I compete in both jazz and kick, but kick is definitely my favorite!

What has been your best memory with the Chaska program?

My best memory with CHSDT was going to state my freshman year with my team.

What have been your top three all-time favorite songs to perform to?

1. In this Shirt — Jazz ’25-’26
2. Wednesday — Kick ’22-’23
3. Joker — Jazz ’24-’25

What are your plans for next year? Will you continue to stay involved in dance?

As of right now I am not sure what school I am committing to, but I would absolutely love to continue to dance in college!

What does it mean to you to be a team captain?

For me, being a captain means being a leader not a boss. My goal was always to push my teammates to their fullest potential, and have them know that I was right there fighting just as hard next to them. Being a captain these past two years has taught me endless lessons about courage, communication and leadership, and I will bring these lessons and memories with me for the rest of my life!
