(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior Kara Moger, captain of the Chaska Hawks Girls Basketball team.)

How long have you been playing basketball?
11 years.
The Chaska Youth program (CAYBBA) has been a really fun experience for so many girls growing up. What was your favorite memory of “travel ball?”
My favorite memory from travel ball was the away tournaments where we got to stay in a hotel and go swimming after games.
You were part of the Hawks’ thrilling run to the state tournament last year, resulting in the consolation championship. How is the club using the momentum from last year’s run this season?
We are using the momentum by holding the team to a higher standard because we know what we are capable of and want to get back to the tournament.
You are part of a huge senior class on the varsity squad – with nine seniors in total. What is your role among the group and how does it complement the others?
My role is to hold my teammates to a higher standard and make sure they are working hard, as well as being there outside of basketball if they need me to be.

What are your plans for next year?
Go to college – I’m not sure where – and major in criminal justice.
What does it mean to you to be a team Captain?
It’s a privilege to help lead my team and hold me accountable to do good all around.
