Kirk’s Captain Corner – Alivia Dreier, Chaska-Chan Gymnastics

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature Chaska senior Alivia Dreier, captain of the Chaska-Chanhassen StormHawks Gymnastics Team.)

How long have you been competing in gymnastics?

I have been doing gymnastics since a young age. This is my third year on StormHawk Gymnastics and before that I competed competitively in club gymnastics.

What events do you compete in?

I compete in all the events: vault, bars, beam and floor.

What have been your favorite memories of StormHawk gymnastics?

My favorite memory of StormHawk gymnastics was 2025 Sections. It was such an amazing meet with such great energy. Our team got third which was a great way to end the season! Overall, I love all the memories of before and after meets listening and singing to music. As well as the supportive environment of coaches and teammates that are so happy for you when you stick a routine.

As a cooperative team, you have teammates from both Chaska and Chanhassen. How fun is that?

It is so fun having teammates from both schools. It is great that we can bring the community together from both schools, when in most sports we are the biggest rivals.

What’s the number one thing you do each and every meet to get yourself, and the team, hyped up?

Before each meet, we listen and sing to music as a team. We also have a team cheer that we do at the beginning of each meet to get the team ready and excited.

What are your plans for next year?

I plan to attend college and major in exercise science.

What does it mean to you to be a team Captain?

Being a team leader is an amazing privilege, giving me the opportunity to be there for all my teammates. I think it is important for me to be a role model to the younger girls on the team, I always looked up to my leaders on the teams in the past. Being a leader means being supportive whether you are having a good day or bad. I am very grateful for the opportunity to help lead this amazing group of girls.

The StormHawks gymnastics team is back in competition on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Eagan invitational before returning to Chanhassen High School to face St. Louis Park on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
