Higherplace Ribbon Cutting

The Higherplace Cannabis Company opened its door on Monday, Dec. 8, and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 9. The Southwest Chamber of Commerce and Chaska Mayor Taylor Hubbard joined co-owners Boone Kneib and Vince Squillacioti in the moment at 103 West 2nd Street in Chaska.

The store is open only to customers 21 years and older who are interested in recreational marijuana and THC products such as edible gummies, snacks and drinks.

The cannabis is currently procured from indigenous tribes and is presented with labels that indicate the expected amount of THC. Enclosed in plastic boxes, the bud varieties are displayed so customers can view and smell them. Purchases require individuals to present identification and register so their use can be tracked and limited by the state of Minnesota to two ounces of cannabis per day per person.

Kneib and Squillacioti have worked for two years with city officials and state agencies to become one of the first cannabis stores outside of tribal land. Both said they were excited to open their business and contribute to the community through their products and taxes.

Chaska’s Police Department confirmed that all the state and local requirements for registration and licensing of a retail cannabis business have been met.

Within the customer entry area, there are educational pamphlets and posters that explain precautions, doses, effects and state-required information about substance abuse and addiction.

The Higherplace Cannabis Company is open Mondays to Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find more information at www.higherplacemn.com or call 952-807-9944.
