Kirk’s Captain Corner: Morgan Donahue, Chaska Girls Basketball

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior captain Morgan Donahue of the Chaska girls basketball team.)

When did you first fall in love with the game of basketball?

I first fell in love with basketball when I started playing outside with my brothers and I wanted to keep playing ever since then.

What position do you play, and what are your biggest strengths on the court?

On the court I am a wing. My biggest strengths would be driving to the basket and playing good defense.

Last year was such a fun run for your squad — going to the State Tournament and winning the Consolation Championship. What were your favorite memories of last year’s postseason run?

The bus rides to and from the games were all so fun. Also, how close we all got toward the end of the year made it really enjoyable and fun.

You are one of nine seniors on this year’s team — of your classmates, who makes you laugh the hardest?

I would say Addi Schneider, because she is always the one who makes everyone laugh.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions?

I always do my hair in a slick back with two braids.

What are your plans for next year?

I’m not sure yet.

What does it mean to you to be a team captain?

Being a team captain means a lot to me by being someone who helps and motivates the team, leading by example, and helping everyone work together so we can hit our goals.

The Hawks Girls’ basketball team hosts Shakopee on Thursday, Dec. 11, as part of a doubleheader with the boys’ basketball team. The girls play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Boys at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of Fight Cancer Night.
