Voters across the Eastern Carver County School District overwhelmingly approved an operating levy that will generate approximately $7 million in additional revenue for schools over each of the next 10 years.
During the Nov. 4 election, about 62 percent of those who went to the polls voted yes. Totals were 7,276 in favor and 4,391 against.
“The district’s residents have spoken, and we are grateful for their support,” Superintendent Dr. Erin Rathke said. “This investment in our students and staff will allow us to continue to offer the exceptional education our community expects and deserves.”
Had the vote totals been flipped, district officials had warned that $6.5 million in cuts would be necessary to balance the budget. The District 112 School Board had already cut the budget by $5 million prior to the current academic year.
The school board will be moving forward with its budgeting process in the coming weeks.
“We are excited to begin planning for what’s next for our programming and will be sharing that work over the months ahead,” Rathke said.
