Girls Swim Chan vs. Chaska: Competitive and Collegial

Many members of the Chaska and Chanhassen girls swim teams have grown up together, so that makes any meet between the two both competitive and collegial. While every swimmer wants to win, they’re often racing long-time friends. Both teams use the state-of-the-art District 112 pool at Pioneer Ridge Middle School as their “home.” On Oct. 14, Chanhassen hosted Chaska for each team’s final dual meet of the season.

Chanhassen won the meet by a score of 113 to 70. Abrie Agazzi-Glaze, Olivia Patrick and Brady Smith led the Storm with 12 points each. Sophie Dahl paced the Hawks with 10 points. Full meet results are as follows:

Chaska head coach McKenna Togstad shared that many of the swimmers have known each other since their club days and have raced together before.

“We’re all competitive, but we’re all friends too. The team did well tonight. We’re working on our times to wrap up the year,” she said.

The camaraderie between the two programs was evident at the end of the meet, when swimmers—and even a few coaches—jumped into the pool together for some good old-fashioned fun.

Chanhassen’s regular season is now complete. Chaska traveled to Eden Prairie on Oct. 17, where the Eagles outswam the Hawks 159–53. Sophie Dahl again led the Hawks with 10 points, winning the 50-yard breaststroke and placing second in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Both teams will send swimmers to Sections Nov. 5–7 in Edina (based on season times and coaches’ input), with the state meet scheduled for No. 13–15 at the University of Minnesota.
