A new assisted living and memory care facility, Eden Springs, may soon call Chanhassen home.
Lighthouse Homes LLC is proposing to construct two 11,688-square-foot facilities connected by a central hallway to serve a total of 42 residents (21 units in each structure).
Deena Laugen, representing Lighthouse at the Sept. 22 Chanhassen City Council Meeting, said the developer plans to offer a luxury setting for residents that “feels like a home.”
The proposed 3.5-acre site is at 1620 Arboretum Boulevard, adjacent to Lake Ann Park and across Highway 5 from Paisley Park.
The Council voted to approve the site plan at its regular meeting but elected officials had a few questions of the developer first.
Mayor Elise Ryan asked if the project would negatively impact nearby wetlands. City Planner Rachel Jeske assured that the project would help reduce stormwater runoff and actually improve the water quality of a creek and wetland.
Ryan added that several residents were concerned about the impact of the project on Lake Ann Park, especially if trees are removed from the construction site. City staff reported that any tree removals or added trees/landscaping would occur on private property and not within the park boundaries.
Council member Jerry McDonald asked if residents of the future facility would be allowed to remain at Eden Springs if their money runs out and Medicaid needs to be tapped to pick up the bill. Laugen said the developer is working on possible options to allow that to happen, but the details have yet to be ironed out.
In 2020, Moments of Chanhassen — a 48-unit memory care facility proposed by a different builder — was approved for the Eden Springs site but was never constructed.
