The Chaska Cubs’ 2025 season has been one for the record books—and the memory banks. The Cubs finished the regular season with an impressive 27-5 record, fueled by consistent contributions from every player and their dedicated fan base.
After a dominant performance in the opening round of the playoffs, sweeping St. Bonifacius in three straight games, the Cubs opened the state tournament against Startell securing a 4-2 victory.
The momentum carried into the quarterfinals on Aug. 29 against the North Saint Paul Snowmen in Brownton. Drake Kilber took the mound in front of a strong crowd of enthusiastic Cubs fans who made the trip to McLeod County. Early doubles from Michael Gabbard and Walker Rogers put Chaska up 1-0 in the first inning. The Cubs broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on three hits and two Snowmen errors. Two more runs in the seventh sealed the deal as the Cubs cruised to an 8-3 win. Kilber was dominant, pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out seven. Four Cubs drove in runs, with Nate Rosenberg contributing multiple RBIs.
The following day in Gaylord, Chaska faced the Champlin Park LoGators in the state semifinals—a matchup between two strong Class A teams. Six Cubs batters recorded hits, with Alex Twenge, Wyatt Rogers and Rosenberg tallying two each. Both Rosenberg and Gabbard homered, providing big moments for the Chaska offense. On the mound, the Cubs used five pitchers, combining for nine strikeouts but also allowed several earned runs. In the end, the LoGators outlasted Chaska, winning 12-8 and bringing the Cubs’ season to an end.
Champlin Park advanced to face perennial powerhouse Miesville in Sunday’s final but fell 11-9, giving the Mudhens the 2025 Class A Championship.
While the loss to Champlin Park was disappointing, the Cubs and their loyal fans left Gaylord with heads held high. The team’s effort, resilience and success throughout the summer reflected the heart of a community that values and supports its players, no matter the outcome of a single game. With another year on the horizon, the Cubs are eager to build on this memorable season and make another run at the title in 2026.
