The 2025 Chaska girls tennis team has started its season undefeated. The Hawks took on Mound Westonka on Aug. 20.
Singles winners were Mylie Brandt (6-1, 6-2) and Amulya Kadirisani (6-4, 7-5). In doubles, Ayla Schmitz and Jenna Tuffs won their match 6-4, 7-6 (2), while Raegan Foss and Ava Kriegler took their match 6-3, 7-5.

With a 4-3 advantage, Chaska secured its first win of the season.
“We lost to Westonka last year, so to come back and take that one gave the team a sense of accomplishment,” said Coach Kevin Lungay.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) has adjusted class placements for girls tennis this year, which is expected to create strong postseason opportunities for the Hawks.
In the first of three matches for the week, Chaska traveled to Richfield on Aug. 25. Singles wins included Brandt (6-3, 6-4) and Amulya Kadirisani in a thrilling, hard-fought match (7-5, 2-6, 13-11). In doubles, Foss and Kriegler (6-3, 6-3), and Lauren Petrie and Gwen Erickson (6-4, 7-5), secured another 4-3 victory for Chaska.
For their first home match, Chaska faced Waconia on Aug. 26. Singles winners were Brandt (6-1, 6-1), Sydney Dorn (7-6 (4), 6-1) and Kadirisani (6-2, 6-4). In doubles, Foss and Kriegler (6-3, 6-4), along with Tuffs and Jenna Campbell (6-2, 7-6 (5), won their matches, giving Chaska a 5-2 victory and a 3-0 record to start the season.
Coach Kevin Lungay, who has been with the program since 2018 and is entering his fourth season as head coach, is optimistic for a good season.
“We are a senior-heavy squad this year, so we’ll be very competitive, but we’ve got some great competition to face. The seniors are great at helping our team, and we’re going to do well this year,” he said.
Lungay is a positive advocate for his team and the sport.
“There are always great matches at our meets. We encourage folks to come out and watch. If anyone has an interest in tennis, stop by anytime and talk with us. It’s wonderful for me—or one of the team—to share our passion for the sport. It’s easy to get started: a racket and some balls and you’re set. It takes a while to master, but it’s a ton of fun,” he said.
Chaska plays its home matches on the courts east of the high school next to the football field. Meets generally begin at 4:15 p.m.. Their next home match is against New Prague on Sept. 4. Follow the team on their web site.
