For more than two decades, Chaska area residents have had an opportunity to attend a premiere event each summer: Touch a Truck.
Sponsored by Chaska Parks and Recreation, kids (and adults!) have been able to experience the thrill of checking out (and climbing onto and into) large equipment at the fun free event.
According to Community Events Recreation Supervisor Sydney Seiffert, the event held Aug. 14 was a success.
“It’s exciting to see the crowd, and this year we changed our location — near Home Depot and Petco — and that allowed us to spread things out more. We also welcomed the police community outreach trailer for the first time, which was a nice addition,” she said.
Some of the options for attendees to explore were tractors, front end loaders, buses, police cars, dump trucks, cranes, mowers, snow plows, boom trucks, fire trucks and road graders. In addition, there was a dance party with kids’ music, carnival games, several informational booths, plus free popcorn and ice cream.
Several attendees shared their favorite things to see.
“I liked the safety gear,” said Everly, 5.
Her twin Gracie said, “I liked having ice cream and a hot dog.”
Max, who is 7, was excited about seeing police cars.
“The community bus was really neat,” commented Rosie, 8.
Sports was a big draw for Isabela, 6.
“I liked seeing all of the sports equipment,” she said. There were many choices, such as soccer, baseball, dance, volleyball, and hockey.
Community organizations such as Scouts, Parks and Recreation, and the Chaska Historical Society were also in attendance.
