The Fire and Ice Festival had a successful 2025 run July 11-12 with thousands attending Friday and/or Saturday supported by warm but perfect weather.
The annual gathering began with more than a dozen food trucks offering things from hot dogs to tacos. Music started with The Indecisions and Viva Knievel both covering hits from yesterday and today. The night wrapped up with fireworks. Saturday offered face painting, a corn hole tournament, kid’s activities, a family fun run, in addition to food trucks and some informative displays from Chaska Parks and Rec. Key in their display was information regarding the utilization of new park space. They are seeking input on which of three proposed designs to consider. Three bands provided pop and country music until fireworks ended the night.
The Fire and Ice Bonspiel drew an estimated 200 curlers from around the area and from as far away as California, Philadelphia, Denver and Chicago to participate in the four-day curling competition. With creative team names such as Sweep Disorders, Curlifornia, Game of Stones and Curl with the Dragon Tattoo, each team participated in at least three games with winners moving on as they won.
Mary A. from Stillwater was asked about the bonspiel.
“We’ve got some nice facilities here in the Twin Cities, and Chaska is a favorite of mine,” she said. “This is a great tournament and, with the community festival here, it makes for a great time for our team.”
Dan H. from Wisconsin shared that this was his first time curling in Chaska.
“I heard about the facility and festival from a friend and I’m glad I listened,” he commented. “This is a very nice facility and the ice is great. I’m going to be back.”
Approaching its 10th anniversary, the Chaska Curling Center has grown into one of the top facilities in the country. The SubZero High School curling team, a co-op team with members from Chanhassen and Chaska high schools, makes their home at the curling center. The center is always open to anyone who wants to learn more about curling.
