Hey, Kids: Come Read All About It!

The Carver County Library annually hosts a summer reading program.

While each year the theme changes, the desired outcomes of the program remain the same for youths:

  1. Maintain their reading skills over the summer
  2. Increase their reading comprehension skills
  3. Increase their learning
  4. Are involved in experiences that enrich their lives

The library achieves these outcomes through the “Read, Write, Draw” program, workshops and performers. But one of the most basic things that libraries do during the summer is provide kids with access to great books.

They do this not just by buying popular books to be on the library shelves and by leasing digital books to access through the Libby app, but also promoting these books through creative displays and curated booklists.

This summer, youth services librarians at Chanhassen, Chaska and Victoria, along with other librarians, created six lists:

In addition, the teen librarians at Chanhassen and Chaska created a dozen lists of great young adult books:

Patrons can also find print copies of these lists in the library. If books are checked out or unavailable at a preferred branch, librarians can request them or readers can do that themselves using the online catalog or via mobile app.

More information about library services and programs can be found online or by calling the Chanhassen Library at 952-303-0401, Chaska Library at 952-33-0402, or Victoria Library at 952-303-1404.
