Boozy Book Fair to Feature Seven Authors

Author Marcie Rendon recently gave a Facebook Live interview with Chanhassen Library staff and I was reminded how much I love her books. One of her newest books, “Where They Last Saw Her,” is set in northern Minnesota on the Red Pine reservation. It is a riveting tale of three strong women struggling for justice.

Main character Quill is out running one winter afternoon on a secluded wooded trail near her home when she hears a scream. The next day, her husband accompanies her to a logging trail that intersects with her running path where they eventually find tire tracks and signs of a scuffle. She speaks to the tribal police, but they do not follow the trail far enough.

Quill notices a sparkle in the snow and discovers a lovely beaded earring and she recognizes the beadwork. This is the start of Quill’s search for the woman, aided by her running pals Punk and Gaylyn.

The three discover a name but must delve deeper to find out where she disappeared from and why. It turns out to be a dangerous quest indeed, threatening them all in different ways.  Pipeline workers have taken over some local small towns and some have turned to drugging, kidnapping and imprisoning women for their enjoyment. The number of missing and murdered indigenous women is staggering.

You may have surmised by now that I love books and authors, and I am excited to attend a new event for me- a Boozy Book Fair at Cream and Amber in Hopkins Saturday, May 3 from 4 to 7 pm.  Tickets are $15 and include a $5 coupon for a book purchase. Get tickets here.

The big draw? There will be seven authors present: Marcie Rendon, Peter Geye, Matt Goldman, Kawai Strong Washburn, Claire Lombardo, Nigar Alam and Sequoia Nagamatsu. It is especially exciting because some of the authors are new to me and come from cultures, settings and genres I have never experienced.
