Chanhassen Corner: What’s Ahead for Chanhassen – 2025 Projects and Improvements

(Chanhassen Corner is a regular feature where Chanhassen officials and various staff and contributors will share updates, insights, and messages with their communities. Communications Manager, Patrick Gavin is providing the current edition.)

As 2025 gets underway, Chanhassen is already making progress on a variety of exciting developments, projects and initiatives. From infrastructure improvements to vibrant community spaces, here’s what’s in store for the rest of the year:

A Civic Campus for Everyone

Phase 1 of Chanhassen’s new Civic Campus is set to open in late summer. This modern hub, which includes a new City Hall and Senior Center, will provide updated facilities and gathering spaces for the entire community. Partially powered by solar panels, the Civic Campus will also reflect Chanhassen’s commitment to sustainability. Stay tuned for the grand opening and new opportunities to connect with your neighbors in this welcoming space.

Safer Streets and Better Connectivity

Improving roadways continues to be a priority in 2025. Phase 2 of the Galpin Boulevard Improvement Project kicks off this spring, bringing safer intersections, multi-use trails, roundabouts and upgraded stormwater systems to this important corridor. Additionally, a new roundabout at Minnetonka Middle School West will help reduce congestion and create a smoother, safer experience for students, families and commuters.

A Cleaner, Greener Chanhassen

Chanhassen now has a public organics recycling drop-off at Feed My Starving Children, located at 18732 Lake Drive East. Thanks to a partnership with RecycleCarver, residents can reduce landfill waste by composting food scraps and soiled paper products. It’s a small change that makes a big difference for both the environment and your wallet.

Family-Friendly Fun at the Fire Department

June will be an exciting month at the Chanhassen Fire Department! The popular Safety Camp for 3rd and 4th graders returns, teaching essential safety skills in a fun and engaging way. Plus, this year marks the debut of “Fishing with First Responders,” a special program for ages 5–15 at Lake Ann. Supplies are provided, and it’s sure to be a memorable experience for kids and families alike.

Shaping the Future of the Community Center

In 2024, residents voted to support the Chanhassen Bluffs Community Center, and in 2025 you’ll have the chance to help shape its design. Watch for updates and opportunities to provide feedback on this exciting project that will become a central gathering place for our community.

A New Look for Downtown Chanhassen

Big changes are coming to downtown Chanhassen. Construction will begin on the site of the former Chanhassen Cinema and Country Inn & Suites, transforming it into a vibrant hub with 310 market-rate apartments, 14,000 square feet of retail space and a brand-new Prince mural. The redevelopment promises to bring fresh dining, shopping and residential options to our city.

Tech Upgrades in Recreational Spaces

Chanhassen continues to embrace innovation and sustainability with new tech upgrades. In 2025, expect to see robotic lawn mowers, a robotic field line striper and remote lighting controls for hockey rinks and pickleball courts. These updates will enhance the city’s recreational spaces while improving efficiency.

Restoring Upper Riley Creek

The Upper Riley Creek restoration project, led by the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District, will continue to make strides this year. This $3.3 million effort aims to improve the stream bed, channel and floodplain, benefiting local wildlife, vegetation and the water quality of Lake Susan.

A Senior Center Revamp

As part of the new Civic Campus, the revamped Senior Center will open in late summer. With enhanced spaces and exciting programs it’s set to become an even more welcoming space for Chanhassen’s 55+ community.

From sustainability efforts to exciting downtown developments, 2025 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Chanhassen.
