Kirk’s Captain Corner – Hanah Thul, Chaska Girls Basketball

(Kirk’s Captain Corner is a regular feature that will allow Carver County residents to get to know the student-leaders of the various teams in our high schools. Today, we feature senior Hanah Thul, Co-Captain of the Chaska Hawks Girls Basketball team.)

How long have you been playing basketball?

I’ve been playing for 12 years.

When did you know that basketball was going to be “your sport?”

Growing up, I played soccer and basketball. But over time, I started to lose interest in soccer, and it was around that point that I truly realized how much I loved basketball. This change in my interests happened around 6th grade.

What has been your favorite memory playing in the Chaska program?

The relationships that have been built throughout this journey are incredibly meaningful to me. I know that these connections will last a lifetime and remain a significant part of my life moving forward.

I hear you have some really awesome possibilities for school next year. What schools are on your list?

St. Thomas, Miami of Ohio, University of Iowa.

What has been your favorite team-building activity?

At the beginning of the season, we read a book called “The Power Of A Positive Team.” I think it brought us closer and made sure we were all on the same page going into the season.

What does it mean to you to be a team captain?

Being a team captain means leading by example and helping my teammates stay motivated. It’s about creating a positive environment where everyone feels supported and valued. I want to make sure we’re all working together toward the same goal and that we trust and respect each other throughout the process.
