Our Community, Our Voice: Why We Created This Digital Newspaper
Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Tip O’Neill once said, “All politics is local.” In much the same way, perhaps all news is local as well.
Traditional small-town newspapers have been in decline for decades. The recent closing of the Chaska Herald, Chanhassen Villager, and other local newspapers brought that stark reality home to many of us here in Carver County.
A small group of concerned citizens gathered to consider what had been lost and how to recreate it. We determined that the essential function of providing unbiased, local news to our communities must continue. The only way it would happen is if we did it ourselves.
We formed a volunteer Board of Directors, filed organizing documents with the State and Federal governments, and opened a bank account.
Our vision
- Develop a new local news service for Chanhassen, Chaska, Carver, and Victoria
- Adhere to established journalism standards like objectivity, truthfulness, fairness, respect for others, and public accountability.
These principles are essential to maintaining a strong sense of community, civil public discourse, and accountability for local leaders and public institutions.
Help Us Grow – Support Local Journalism
Launching this digital newspaper is just the beginning. To continue providing high-quality, local news and grow our platform, we need your support. This project is driven by a passion for keeping our community informed and connected, but it also requires resources to maintain and expand.
Your donations will help us:
- Cover costs associated with news production, website maintenance, and multimedia content.
- Expand our coverage to include more stories from each city and more diverse perspectives.
- Keep the platform free and accessible to everyone in our community.
Please consider donating to help us grow and ensure that local journalism continues to thrive in our towns. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps keep our community connected, informed, and engaged.
Together, we can guarantee that the stories, events, and voices that matter to us continue to have a platform. Thank you for your support, and welcome to your new community newspaper.
