Online Author Visits Scheduled as Part of Library Winter Reads Program

(Note: Carver County Library branch managers are providing updates on exciting programs, new services, and book reviews for Carver County Local News. This month, Chanhassen and Victoria location manager Patrick Jones shares information on upcoming events).

As part of the Carver County Library Winter Reads reading program for adults, online author visits are hosted on Facebook Live. The author normally makes a short presentation, reads from a current work (or work in progress), then takes questions. In February, there will be two authors participating.

Ian Young: Tuesday, Feb. 3, 6:30 p.m.

Ian Young will participate in conversation moderated by Katherine Kempf. Young is the author of Darkness Unknown, Ashen Light and the novel The Automaton which won the 2023 Best Indie Book Award (BIBA) for science fiction and is a Book Readers Appreciation Group (indieBRAG) medallion honoree.

Young has lived in the Twin Cities for most of his life. When not writing, he likes hanging out at a local coffeeshop, playing board games with his kids or working in his garage woodshop.

Moderator Katherine Kempf is the author of the novel Cornish Steel and her current project is The Mimameid Trilogy, the first of which, The Mimameid Solution, was released in 2023 and placed as a quarterfinalist in the 2023 SPSFC Competition. She is a U.S. expat with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and master’s degree in journalism, both of which seep their way into her stories. Originally from Virginia, she now calls Germany home.

Mary Lucia: Tuesday, Feb. 10, 6:30 p.m.

Author Mary Lucia is the author of Whatever Doesn’t Kill Me Makes Me Weirder and Harder to Relate to: A Memoir.

What’s it like to be in the public spotlight when it just might get you killed? For Mary Lucia, becoming a wildly popular rock DJ meant connecting with a multitude of fans through a shared love of music and deep cuts. But for one listener, that connection became a dangerous obsession, catapulting Lucia into the terrifying three-year nightmare that she chronicles in this raw, wry, and profoundly courageous memoir.

Both visits are online only on www.facebook.com/CarverCountyLibrary/live
