Book Nook: “Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave,” by Elle Cosimano

I just finished this insanely funny and manic mystery, the fifth in the series.

Finlay Donovan is an author of mysteries featuring a hot cop who oddly is a lot like her actual boyfriend, and her books include a few dangerous things that maybe actually happened.

Donovan lives with her nanny Vero and her two kids — Delia who is suspended from school for beating up a boy who bullied her, and 2-year-old Zach who has decided he never wants to wear pants or use the potty.

Her ex-husband, Steven, turned out to be a serial philanderer who was documented by her nosy neighbor across the street, Mrs. Haggerty. A body has been found in Mrs. Haggerty’s yard; first she is arrested but eventually exonerated.

Then they start investigating Steven, as he had done landscaping work in her yard. After her release, crabby Mrs. Haggerty declares she needs to move in with Finlay, “just for a few days until her house is repaired.” Oh oh!

The author, Elle Cosimano, will be speaking online for Club Book at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20. You can ask questions and make comments. The meetings are fun to “attend.”

Check Club Book’s Facebook account for the link. Cosimano lives with her husband and two sons in Virginia.
