Get in the Spirit: Easy Halloween Treats

It’s only a couple of weeks until the spookiest holiday of the year: Halloween! If you have kids who enjoy helping with kitchen “projects,” a couple of treats that are easy to make (note: few ingredients! no baking!) are ghost cookies and candy acorn bites. They are great to share with family and friends.

Even if you don’t have kids, consider whipping up one or both treats to share at an office party potluck. They are sure to be a hit!

Ghost Cookies

  • 1 12-ounce package white chocolate chips
  • 24 peanut-shaped peanut butter sandwich cookies
  • 48 miniature chocolate chips

Add chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl and heat on low for 30 seconds and then stir. Continue heating on low 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time, until white chocolate is warm and smooth.

Use two forks to dip peanut butter cookies into white chocolate, then set them on a sheet of waxed paper. Immediately add two miniature chocolate chips onto one end of each cookie for eyes. Allow cookies to set for approximately 20 minutes before eating.

Candy Acorn Bites

  • 24 chocolate kisses (unwrapped)
  • 24 mini vanilla wafer cookies (such as Nilla brand)
  • 24 butterscotch chips
  • Frosting or melted chocolate (if you make ghost cookies, reserve some of that for this recipe)

Dab a small amount of frosting or melted chocolate on the flat bottom of one candy kiss.  Press the kiss on the flat bottom of one vanilla wafer cookie.

Add a small amount of frosting on the flat bottom of 1 butterscotch chip, then press it onto the top of same cookie, to resemble an acorn.

Repeat with remaining frosting/chocolate, kisses, cookies and butterscotch chips. Set aside to dry for approximately 30 minutes.
