Take Part in Discussions at the Carver County Library

(Note: Carver County Library branch managers are providing updates on programs and services for Carver County Local News. This month, Patrick Jones — Chanhassen and Victoria locations manager — shares an update).

The Great Decisions discussion program returns to the Chanhassen Library at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. The topic will be “Great Decisions: American Foreign Policy at a Crossroads.”

Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. Global Minnesota (globalminnesota.org) — a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization — facilitates the statewide program by providing access to a roster of local foreign policy experts. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Chanhassen Library, and registration is required.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, a conversation will be shared between author Thomas Maltman and the Chanhassen Library branch manager about Maltman’s new novel Ashes to Ashes.

Set in a small rural Minnesota community, the novel focuses on a shy, reluctant wrestling star who is tracked into special education classes. It blends the fragments of a Norse saga with a finely observed portrait of a rural Midwestern life in the wake of multiple tragedies.

Books will be available for purchase and signing from Valley Bookseller. This program will be streamed simultaneously on Facebook page and available on social media for a month after the program. This event is presented by Literature Lovers’ Night Out™.

More information about all library services and programs can be found online or by calling the Chanhassen Library at 952-303-0401, Chaska Library at 952-33-0402, or Victoria Library at 952-303-1404.
